reading the thread, i remembered that i have the same (unresolved)
problem (or is it a feature ?)

so i took my apache book. changed server name in httpd.conf (for main
server config and virtual host config for the main site), set canonical
name to off and on, and restarted httpd. flushed even my browsers
cache... no
effect.

i cannot (don`t want to) set the server name on the gui to "www" because
i have another server with the hostname www.
