Versions of the kernel become pretty meaningless after a while.
Our base kernel is 2.2.14 and any security patches can be patched
into our 2.2.14 tree. As with the above mentioned exploit.

Yes. 2.0.34 does very well, and there is no need to upgrade it.
The exploit found in 2.2.14 is ONLY for 2.2.x, 2.3.x (experimental)
and 2.4.0 (experimental) kernels. Not to mention there is no
currently available 2.2.x port for mips.
