heh, that's like saying 'it doesn't work' ;0

combine the netmasks, ie: 255.254.0.0 allows both address through...
but it still may not work, it's kinda dependent on how the router on your
original gateway address is set up....

if it doesn't work that way then yu are probably gonna hafta hack config
files to setup network interfaces using a default and non-default
gateway..
