Re: [cobalt-users] Installing PHP + mySQL on raq3

Chris,

I followed the directions as specified in the following knowledgebase
article, and everything is working fine.

http://www.cobalt.com/support/kb/search.php3?ques=mysql&qid=726&language=1

All the required files are located in;

ftp://ftp.cobaltnet.com/pub/experimental/raq3/

Couple of notes, Make sure you install the MySQL RPMS first, and I used the
php-*.rpm, php-mysql-*.rpm, NOT the mod_php*.rpm.

Also, install freetype and gd RPM's before installing the PHP RPMS.

Subject: [cobalt-users] Installing PHP + mySQL on raq3

I was wondering if anyone has had success installing PHP and mySQL on a
raq3. I followed the instructions on the support
pages and could not get php to load. When I would modify the
/etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf file to add php support, apache would
not start. After some frustration with this, I decided to install the
newest version of apache, php4, and mysql. I quickly noticed
that Cobalt doesn't put the programs in the standard directories. (ie:
/usr/local/apache). After a full compile and install of each
program, everything worked except I lost all management of the server. I
tried to copy the new apache httpd into /usr/sbin
and call it from /etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd but I get a bunch of errors
about my /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf file having invalid entries.

Long story short, I removed all the work that I've done with apache and
php4, and brought the system back up to "factory"
defaults.

If anyone has suggestions on how I can go about installing all of these
features but not loose the functionality of the
Cobalt management via the web I would be most appreciative.

Thanks,
Chris
