[cobalt-users] Communitech condones SPAM...

I finally got a hold of my contact at Communitech. They said that nothing
they did was in violation of any of the terms of service for their upstream
providers.

Failing to mention, of course, that it's in violation of their *OWN* terms of service.

From their own site:
Spamming is the sending of unsolicited e-mail, regardless of size or
volume, to persons the sender does not know or have prior consent to
send the message to. Using fictitious e-mail addresses
@communitech.net or any domain name hosted with
CommuniTech.Net is strictly forbidden. Spamming also includes
sending unsolicited advertisements to numerous email addresses or
newsgroups and/or generating a significantly higher volume of
outgoing email than a normal user. A violation of this policy extends to
clients who send unsolicited e-mail from a domain name not affiliated
or hosted with CommuniTech.Net but the mail message makes
mention of a website hosted with CommuniTech.Net.

Likewise, they did say that the emails did not originate on
their servers -- they leased a T1 line (and probably another line as Brian
Hitchcock pointed out) and sent the mail this way.

Excellent. Then *I* can lease a T1, spam a hundred thousand people, and
tell them to visit my website hosted on Communitech. If they're allowed to do it, why can't their customers do it?

I'm still not done with this, as this is totally
unprofessional and a far cry from the wonderful service that I've had so
far.

I for one am willing to do anything and everything I can to make sure these *ssholes have their lives inconvenienced enough that the never think about doing this again.

Bottom line: They think they're right, and even if they weren't right,
they used someone else's line to do it so it shouldn't be their problem.

Great. I'm quite sure they don't take this attitude with their own customers, however...
