They paid the postage for that. In the US, your can fill out a form at the
PO and block mail from anyone you like. On the Internet, you pay for the
connection, server space, bandwidth, etc. Spam is like postal mail sent
postage due or a telemarketer calling collect. Just do some math to figure
out how much Spam costs based on the millions, if not billions of messages
and the bandwidth. Spam and the bandwidth used adds a couple of dollars to
your monthly $20 dialup.

Translation: theft is the way to do business since Spam is by definition,
theft.
