i don`t know if the domains to reject are stored in sendmail.cf, a file
that normally is created using the m4 macro language, which could take
some time. maybe that the gui (the perl script behind) even preprocesses
your entries.

i could imagine that - using the gui - not the single domain is
processed, but the whole database again, as that under normal
circumstances (only few entries) could be more performant than
verifiying if an entry does exist before adding it.

it depends on your overall system load, too. if you add entries while
the raq is doing something else (web requests that require heavy cgi
scripts, updating the whatis database, rotating logs etc.), that could
be another reason for slowing it down.
