What we do is create a global alias so "cgi-bin" always points to our
own cgi directory, in which we install cgis sharable by all our users.

We also allow users to install their own cgis anywhere, which (by Cobalt
RaQ default) they run under the cgi wrapper.

If you're going to change the /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf file you should
probably get a good book on apache; I use and recommend "Apache Server
Bible" by Kabir, IDG books.

If you need specific instructions, let me know and I'll write them up
for you.

WARNING: Making any changes to the "site settings" through the gui
after you make changes to the /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf file WILL
default back to the RaQ settings for the file; your changes will
disappear. We keep a copy of the entire virtual site block as a
backup. We carefully monitor all changes to "site settings", and we
reinstall our changes from our copy if/when we ever change "site
settings".

Hope this helps.
