Re: [cobalt-users] Backup for Qube2?

Hi Vince,

Further to the info Mike has posted, there are some minor changes you
might like to make to /etc/smb.conf so you can backup all the user
directories as well as the group shares.

Add the following ...

[global]
   admin users = admin

This will give the admin user the same access as root when it comes to
accessing files in SAMBA shares. I find this necessary for backups ...
don't use admin for "normal" access to SAMBA shares, use your own account.

Also add the following ...

;users - ALL user directories for the purpose of backup
[users]
   browseable = yes
   comment = Cobalt Qube - Users Directories
   create mask = 0755
   path = /home/users
   preserve case = yes
   printable = no
   public = no
   read only = no
   short preserve case = yes
   valid users = admin
   writable = yes

I position this section immediately after the [global] section. This
will create another SAMBA share which will contain all the user
directories. Users will not have access to them via this share, but
admin will. Users will still have access to their "home" share as
before.

If you are using IMAP then it is important to backup user directories.

As an aside, Dantz are working on a Linux/Unix client (like the Legato
client pre-installed on the Qube2) to sublement their existing MacOS and
Windows clients. This will mean you'll be able to backup everything on
the Qube2 and not just the SAMBA or Netatalk shares.

Cheers,  Malcolm
