Looking at it as a subdomain confuses the issue. It's actually a 3rd
level domain, ie: ext = first (as in com) domainname = second
level. Thus domainname.ext is a second level domain and what are
normally called subdomains are third level dommains which is more
than likely why Dave suggested the www.name.domainname.com way of
doing things.
To make a long story short, you can do anything with a third
level domain that you can do with a second level domain. The same.
Peace be with you,
Brent
