If the 5.6 is an RPM as well, you should be able to "rpm -u" instead of
"rpm -i". That way you upgrade instead of install.

The rpm upgrade engine will save copies of your config files if it modifies
them. Nevertheless, read the docs because you may have to copy them back or
integrate your changes into the new config files.
