We have a RaQ2 running POP before Relay. I think it might have something to
do with that.

I've seen this message also. This happened to my own account and seems to
occur most commonly when a user is "POPing" the server and gets
disconnected suddenly. Upon reconnect,this error may be seen. To fix this,
I had to telnet to the server, (I accept the slap for not installing SSH
yet..:)
cd /var/spool/mail
ls -la | more to verify the presence of the .username.pop file and then
delete it. As long as it was there, I could not retrieve mail.
I received all my mail, as best I could tell..but it was a bit mangled. One
message did appear to have been "cut in half", maybe because it was the one
being retrieved at the time of the sudden disconnect.
I don't believe it has much if anything to do with the pop-before-relay
feature.
