Hi Daniel,

	I'll start by saying that it shouldn't hurt anything to
leave the old stuff as it is. As long as you get the executables out
of the way things should be just fine.

	I say that because, unless one plans for these
eventualities, removing installed software can be difficult, if not
down right impossible for someone who isn't intimately familar with
Linux. 

	I'd recomend that you do the best you can. If you end up
with any strange error messages or unusual problems it may be
indicative of you're having the old next to the new. In that event
I'd recomend bringing the problem to the list.

	There are some nifty scripts which will save a listing of
all the files installed during a 'make insall' and where they were
install at. A search on freshmeat.net should prove fruitful.
