Re: Re: [cobalt-users] Using "At" command to take a backup fromCobaltNASRAQ to NT Server using scripts.

In cobalt-users digest, Vol 1 #876, Malcolm McLeary wrote:

To the best of my knowledge using Retrospect to backup SAMBA shares really
needs to have SMB support between the two machines. If you use Retrospect
Clients, then you are not limited to SMB, but Dantz currently only have a
MacOS and Windows client. Dantz have acknowledged that they are working on
a unix/linux client and I have heard a rumour that they have some Cobalt
hardware in their development lab ... let us hope the result will be a
Restrospect client for Cobalt to replace the existing Legato client.

Now, listen here, Malcolm - You keep your grubby fingers away from the Legato client ;^)

Why should you replace it - simply add another client for Retrospect.
That said, I'd say Dantz ought to cough up a backup client (at least..) for unix (read OS X and Linux).

Back to the topic, I suspect the issue is rather with M$, than with Samba, since M$ is notorious for altering protocols just al little, so that you get compatibility issues with all but M$ stuff...

Kind regards
