Hi Tony,
About the only way to do this is to go in and manually
delete the existing installation. I suspect you'll find most all of
it in /var/lib/mysql However any specifics you added to the
./config file enter into the equation. For example, if you did a
--prefix=/something/or/other you'll have to look there too.
Sorry about throwing a wringer in here on you. But
installing MySQL as root is a very very bad thing to do and I
figured it best to tell you now rather than after the fact...
