Yes, that is painfully familiar to me, although mine was with a RaQ3 not 3i
and no Chilisoft.
The problem I had was that the ethernet interface on the RaQ would just go to
sleep for no good reason, and stop responding to outside requests. I could
ping it from another machine in the ISP's LAN to wake it up, but then it would
go to sleep again after so many minutes. Cobalt tech support confirmed this
to be a sporadic problem when the RaQ is attached to certain Cisco switches.
Changing the autonegotiate settings for that port on the switch did not solve
the problem.
I finally convinced Cobalt to send me a replacement unit. While the
replacement was in the air, my ISP suffered a total UPS failure, killing power
to my RaQ (and everyone else colocated there). Since they brought the power
back up, I have never had a single instance of the ethernet interface going to
sleep again. Bizarre but true! I returned the replacement RaQ to cobalt
unused.
So, the problem with my unit was solved, but we have no idea why.
If you are desperate, you might want to try cycling the power without doing a
proper shutdown. Generally not recommended, but it did seem to fix my
machine...
