I'm new to the list and I don't want to step on anyone's
toes and I'll freely admit that my views and some of the proceedures
I use in these situations can be a bit difficult to deal with - my
goal is always to make as major a malfunction out of an attack as I
possibly can. Public humiliation is a very good thing in situations
such as these.
However, unless I'm missing something, tcp wrappers does not
wrap the httpd port by default. Thus adding the host to the
hosts.deny file will not have any effect.
I have been known to wrap httpd with tcp wrappers in
situations such as this, for reasons mentioned above, but some
configuration changes are in order to pull this off - such as
starting a seperate httpd for the wrapped account.
I'm not looking for a fight Gordon and thus please accept my
appology for jumping in here as I certainly mean you no insult. I'm
just trying to save the original poster some grief.
Peace be with you,
Brent
