look at it this way, the usernames are not tied to a particular domain. Aliases are. This is why, if you search the archives on this subject, many people on the list have recommended not using names, etc. for username, but use some cryptic type deal, ie customer number, better yet to solve someone else's problem on the list make the username the date their account was setup plus their initials or something.
So someuser@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx gets all the email addressed to someuser@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
