We had to sort this out for a customer recently. Unfortunately I used the
tried and trusted technique of clicking everything until it went away, which
it did :-)

Here's some things to try:

1. Did you disable APOP on the server first, or did you disable the user
from using APOP, then the server?

If the former, enable APOP again on the server, enable APOP on the user (you
have to set the password when you do this). Now disable APOP for the user,
then for the server.

2. If 1. wasn't the solution, simply try changing the users password.

It was one of the above two that fixed it for me.
