RE: [cobalt-users] URGENT ProFTPD problem: users can't go beyond personal dir...

Hi , maybe this will help!!

The fix, on my box!!
Thanks to Cobalt Support .. they were slow in responding but after a few
phone calls and 24 HRS!!

The problem as I understand it was, a corrupted group file (site-adm
entries)

And one has to fix it with VI and not Pico ... I was trying to fix it in
PICO. Screwed it further.

Why did it get corrupted?

A file lock Problem !! I think .

We were putting on 150 domains and three of us were at the same time adding
userids and passwords to the Raq.
Damn, If it let us log in simultaneously, it should be able to handle
multiple entries, RIGHT!!??
NOT!!! Looks like the GUI does not file lock on the group file well enough
cos when I looked at the group file after doing all 150 Domain and the users
...It was messed bad, with UserIDs missing in the Group file where they
exist when you check thru the GUI interface, plus the site-adm entries not
being in a single line.

Look at the group file. /etc/group
And maybe someone can highlight why VI and not Pico??

When I transfered my sites from an old server to another I created the
domains first then the user accounts second. I added about 75 then made the
usernames...

When I did that I had the same problems as you. Site admins couldn't upload
to /web and ftp ran extremely slow.

>From what you said, and from my past experiences RaQ3i seems to act up when
you add to many domains without site admins.

I had to restore the server to factory defaults and I started over going
slowly. I'm at 65 domains now, and have added them one by one, with site
admins after each and have had no problems. I think it may be a bug, and
thats nothing new, cobalt has many.

After they made the log rotate fix, the problem came back when I added 10
more domains! Its rediculous, and people say microsoft windows is buggy?
