Update...
My Zyan connection is now working. They allegedly have a guarantee that
I'll get 80% of the bandwidth I'm promised. But evidently no teeth in
it for what happens when I get no bandwidth.
I've told them the next time it happens I'll consider myself cancelled
by them and find service elsewhere.
They've told me that if I do that I'll owe them an equipment fee of
$100, a cancellation fee of $300, plus half of the total remaining
monthly payments due on the contract <frown>.
I actually signed a contract that allows that?
I'm ashamed of myself <wry grin>.
NEVER AGAIN.
I can't tell you not to buy from Zyan. And I won't. But I urge you to
learn from my experience. There are other DSL vendors out there
(including us, but only in California at the moment, unfortunately) who
do not so penalize. We have only a cancellation fee, and only during
the first six months.
