I have done that but used FreeBSD and X. Not familiar with Linux commands.
Got a Very good Linux Red hat 6.1 Admin book today. lol

Yep, it is dangerous. Please get a second computer for your own use,
with some kind of Linux or similar operating system. Then use that
system for learning.

Emacs is best for that task. But please take the built in tutorial
before starting (and maybe get the pocket reference too).

emacs /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf

C-x s to save
C-x c to close
C-x f to open a new file
