It is not a hard limit.  As a newbie to the list: there is a link at the
bottom of each email to the list archives.  This topic (and pretty much all
newbie topics) have been covered already at one point or another.  List
etiquette dictates that you should check the archives before posting.  I'm
not trying to be inflammatory or anything, just let you know that that
ability exists on the list.

Well, no-one should be relaying mail through your server.  This is typically
considered the responsibility of the customer's ISP, and you are responsible
for POP/IMAP only.  It makes much more sense to have email sent from an
on-site SMTP server or an immediately upstream one, rather than going all
over the place on the internet, and then sending from your web servers.

However, I do understand that some clients are, for lack of a better term,
'wingnuts'. :)  They just don't understand that the server to send mail and
the server to receive can be two completely different servers in two
completely different countries if need be.

In that case, using POP before SMTP for authentication may be a good idea.
