We are having the same kind of problems with our nasraq's with
the difference that we are not using an NT domain controller.
Sometimes in the middle of the day the nas just dissapear from the network
and needs a reboot to be online again.

For the W2k part we cannot even connect to the nas because the login
and passwords gets rejected every time.

Does anyone knows if it's an issue with the samba version used in the nas ?

Thanks.

Objet : [cobalt-users] NASRaQ Samba / SMB Difficulty

I'm experiencing a /lot/ of difficulty keeping consistent connections on our
NASRaQ to Windows machines for our Cold Fusion & ASP developers.

The NAS is our central file server for Mac/Appletalk users and Windows/SMB
users.

There seem to be several issues--potentially all are tied into one.

At times the NAS prompts users for a Username/Password out of the blue--upon
logging in and connecting to it or in the middle of the day after working
off it for some time. Specifying proper credentials fails. Is the NAS
losing a network connection to our NT Domain Controller? People are opening their ASP and CFM files directly off of the file server, making changes, and
saving.

I briefly remember talking to a tech @ Cobalt about a patch for a potential
fix for this issue. I remember him saying it was in QA/QC and no estimated
release date was given.

Another problem, which from what I've heard is well known, is the
Windows2000 issue where the NAS will not display a list of shares, but
manually entering the \\server\share\ will get you to it.

I'm wondering if I've missed a thread for a similar or identical issue for a
fix, or are all developers/admins in the same boat as I for the time
being--If there are patches available that can correct /any/ of these
issues, is there /any/ way to manually update Samba on the NAS?

Any insight or help would be greatly appreciated. Its quite upsetting to
reboot either the NAS--which everyone here works off of--or reboot the
domain controller, which completely hoses the NAS until it comes back online in order to authenticate network connections... All of this because the NAS
seems to drop any and all concurrent network connections to itself after
time via SMB...

Much thanks.
