You can install IPChains. It is an IP-based firewall
that comes stock with RedHat Linux (and others). The
syntax can be a little complicated at first, but you
will quickly learn it. Once you have IPChains installed,
I would recommend Psionic's PortSentry and LogCheck.
PortSentry is basically a portscan detector that will
automatically firewall anyone scanning you or trying to
hit you on a specific unauthorized port. LogCheck notes
certain behaviors (such as portscans and intrusion
attempts) in your mail/messages and secure logs and
sends you e-mail. Any security is only as good as its
implementation, so I would recommend you test everything
on a non-critical box first.
You can find IPChains and any other .rpm at
www.rpmfind.net
IPChains and LogCheck is at

Subject: [cobalt-users] Firewalls on RaQ3s
Hello all,
Can any one recommend a decent software firewall that can be effectively
run on the
same RaQ3 as the site that it is protecting - I'm trying to avoid having
to set up a
specific firewall server.
Cheers,
Dave
