Verisign just sent us a notice that they'll be raising the price for
Thawte's wildcard certs this year.
"Please note that the cost of a renewing a wildcard SSL cert
will increase to USD 500.00 on 1 Nov, 2000."
Verisign has a policy of 'no wildcard certs,' so I'm a bit surprised
that they're leaving Thawte's wildcard certs as an available product
at all.
That was about the worst merger I think I've seen lately. It's just a
matter of time until Verisign totally ditches any of the ideals that
Thawte originally stood for. They're already putting notices all over
the web site and renewal notices trying to get people to switch over
to Verisign certificates.
Where's those darned anti-trust lawyers when you really need
them?
Sincerely,
