We have 3 RaQ4 servers we have converted to use the RaQ550 software. All 3
of these servers have been kept up to date with patches. Have applied the
PKG files from NUONCE networks for the kernel patches.
Only 1 of these servers is in production because the first few weeks after
we built the first machine it started hanging after a few weeks. SMTP
service would stop responding, Could not SSH. However you could get to the
website interface but could not log in. Sometimes it would totally hang. A
reboot always fixes it.
We built 2 more servers and let them sit idle. After a few weeks or more
these two servers also would end up hanging. This is with nothing accessing
them except our monitoring applicatin which is just checking for HTTP and
SMTP port access.
I posted in the Cobalt FORUM on the SUN site and it seems others have had
similiar problems. It seems that when it hangs there is a kernel panic.
Well our server that is in production has clients on it and we keep adding
them and it is happening more and more frequent. We found someone that
suggested booting from ROM kernel. (cmos -c defboot r) We did this about a
week ago and so far no problem. EXCEPT!! Frontpage has stopped working when
you try and add a new site and add frontpage to it. You get an error like
this
Warning: /boot/System.map has an incorrect kernel version.
Warning: /boot/System.map has an incorrect kernel version.
Also there are some failures related to IPTABLES but we have these machines
behind a Cisco PIX so we are not concerned about the IPTABLES not working.
Here is the FORUM link I posted to that looked related. Looks like I am not
the only person so I am hoping that someone has a good solution or fix.
