The files contain cached DNS lookup information, to speed up processing the
logs (no external DNS lookups required once an IP/domain is cached locally).
You'll also see mail.cache and ftp.cache files as well.
You can safely delete them at the expense of forcing more DNS lookups when
processing your logs (not a problem at all IMO).
