Fist make sure the ROM is not an Intel ROM, the boot up message on the
serial port, or peel the label off.

The flashtool has a command to backup the ROM
Use the following command to back up your ROM:
  ./flashtool -v -r > backup.rom
This is so you can rewrite it if the operation fails
