My understanding: it's a hardware appliance that sits in between the
network connection and our bank of RaQs. It scans/cleans/marks-as-spam
all incoming mail, and then forwards the good stuff to the appropriate
mail server(s).
You can build your own solution to do the above. Buy the hardware, install
your favorite open source operating system, install your favorite MTA and
SpamAssassin and you have your good stuff mail server.
I'm looking at software solutions as well, but would probably prefer a
hardware solution because of potential server load problems mentioned here
on the list.
A software solution on the RaQ would not solve the load problem if it is
based around SpamAssassin.
Building your own solution would cost less than $1,000 depending on the
amount of email you receive. If you are looking for a hardware appliance
instead, contact me off-list.
