RE: [cobalt-users] Cobalt Raq550 GUI Error: init-did-not-start

No luck so far, the only dodgy messages I found in /var/log/message were:

Apr 7 10:15:00 cipher swatch[26992]: can't open lockfile: looking for other
swatch tasks
Apr 7 10:15:00 cipher swatch[26992]: can't open lockfile - another swatch
process seems to be running - exiting

Anybody know what that means?

Also does anyone know how to remove a virtual site completely without using
the cobalt GUI, eg. Using shell only. I have attempted to remove a virtual
site in this way, but the GUI still has some record of it in its object db,
is there any scripts out there to repair a broken GUI object db?

Mike, I had a similar-ish issue once upon a time - the init-did-not-start
is a catch-all error- the trick is to find the underlying error, which I
recall for me, was found in /var/log/messages.

Also, try stopping and starting tomcat manually

/etc/init.d/tomcat.init stop
/etc/init.d/tomcat.init start

or stopping and restarting Apache:

/etc/init.d/http stop
/etc/init.d/http start

Chances are, one of these starts will error out,and you'll be able to look
in the appropriate log file for the cause.

Adam.

I have just setup a Cobalt Raq550 server, and using the web gui created 2
virtual sites with the JSP and PHP enabled. I then renamed the domain name
of one site, which saved ok, but now I cant add or remove any virtual sites.
Doing so produces the error:

Site Removal Failed - task status: init-did-not-start

I have added some JkMount commands to the apache config file, httpd.conf, in
order to get my other virtual site working normally with Tomcat.
Initial research suggests my problem may be a corrupted object database of
the admin gui, but I don’t know a thing about repairing that. I have reached
the point where some expert advice is needed, this is mission critical for
us so any help will be greatly appreciated.
