AW: [cobalt-users] RaQ4 whis Classic Linux

sounds like you're not in love with those blue babies. i love them. mainly
because they're good-looking ;). i think somebody should develop and
distribute a replacement mainboard for the raq3/4-series using a via c3
design, i bet there are a lot of raqlovers out there who would buy such a
thing. does anybody know who originally manufactured the raq mainboards for
cobalt?

Dmitry mentions "cobaltsupport.com", a commercial software repository.

They charge $40 per month plus a $40 setup fee, or $400 for an annual
subscription, per server.

According to their site at: http://www.cobaltsupport.com/members.htm
they offer over 250 packages and the number grows every day, but they don't
say what those packages are. We can only hope they include up-to-date
patches against exploits in a timely manner for the core services the
operating system provides.

Over a year ago I tried to build a concensus to create a service that would
charge us$5.00 per month per server, and I got no positive feedback and a
lot of complaints from people accusing me of spamming the list.

So I can only hope to wish these gents well, and hope that enough
Cobalt-users will think their service important enough to pay $400 per
server per year.

When I look at a Cobalt RaQ, running 500 mhz or below, with a half-gig of
memory or less, powered by an 80-watt power supply too small to allow drives
faster than 5400 rpm, I tend to think of taking them out of service as being
a better option than paying $400 per year to keep them in service.

That said, we offer cobalt administration and update services as well, and
we've been doing it commercially for four years.
