Gerald,

I don't have any problems looking up other sites, I just can't seem to get
database.clamav.net.

My /etc/named.conf options are as follows:
options {
directory "/etc/named";
// spoof version for a little more security via obscurity
version "100.100.100";
// no forwarders defined
// zone transfer access denied
allow-transfer { none; };
recursion no;
};

Here is what I get w/ dig:
# dig database.clamav.net
;; Truncated, retrying in TCP mode.
; <<>> DiG 9.2.1 <<>> database.clamav.net
;; global options: printcmd
;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached
But, I can reach any other site just fine including clamav.net:
# dig clamav.net
; <<>> DiG 9.2.1 <<>> clamav.net
;; global options: printcmd
