Got to correct myself a bit:

Got some new infos from my customer:

PNG is working correctly and GIF read-support should be O.K. too. 
Here's the complete "gd" part of phpinfo from my 4.3.4:

So the "JPG Support" is missing completely to 4.1.2, and GIF create 
too - but as said that's O.K. - because of that legal stuff.
