virtusertable.db is not supposed to be human-readable.
If you can't read virtusertable, though, you've got a problem.

I'm not sure if it can be or not; if it can be, then you'd do it with
the "meta-verify" script if it exists on a 550.
The only instructions I have for meta-verify are for RaQ3 and RaQ4
servers; I'm not sure if it's available for a 550 or not.
If it exists on a 550 you can find it by searching:
# locate meta-verify.pl
