Re: [cobalt-users] Definitive Guide on Updating RaQ3 or RaQ4->RaQ 550?

I’ve been searching around the ‘Net and have found several resources on how
to upgrade a RaQ3 or RaQ4 to RaQ 550 software. However, some of them mention
to download an image from http://www.cobaltfaqs.com/ and flash the RaQ using
Tim Hockin’s flashrom utility, while some just say to boot from the RaQ 550
CD and go from there (but to tell the installer it’s not a RaQ 550.)

We have approximately 18 RaQ3s & 4s I'm interested in doing this to and I'd
rather I didn't burn through 10+ doorstops before figuring out the right way
to do this. What’s the definitive way to upgrade and where is it documented?

There is no definitive way to do it, nor any documentation beyond what you've probably already found, as it was never a fully tested/supported process. The engineers threw the upgrade process into the 550 CD but never tested all possible combinations (ROM on the unit being upgraded seems to be a big variable, as well as minor variations in hardware configs that made it out the door).

The OSRCD is a perfectly acceptable way to do it; just be SURE to select the correct hardware type when doing the ROM upgrade part. You need to select the actual hardware you are upgrading, and not "RaQ 550"...
