Bruce,
I checked over the how to you made and I would like to "add" to it.
I would suggest you discontinue the usage of "--nodeps --noscripts
and --force" as it is not consistant or an accectable practice... While
these options can be used, in this example they are not being used
correctly.. They simply imply that the rpm being used was not built around
the destination or just that something is wrong.
I would suggest you move the " Delete md5lst files for any existing (older)
version" section to after the install of the rpms... since if your install
fails you will have still changed the system records for what is
installed... This would actually hide the attempted pkg install and the
pre-existing install of rsync...
About your removing any pre-existing rpms before your install and I think
it's safe to say it would be better to increase the release number instead
of trying to replace it which is the only reason I can think you would do
that... rpm will take care of all of that for you and as long as your
building your rpms correctly... Then this step becomes unneeded....
oh and the index thing is just for the raq2/older stuff
