Adding DNS records is required, but won't solve the problem.

Yes, at the botom.

You need to do 
  ps ax | grep sendmail

and then you see
  2092 ?        S      0:00 sendmail

but you won't see 2092 ... you'll see another number. then type
  kill -HUP XXXXX

where XXXXX is that number (sendmail's process id).
