[cobalt-users] Removing Old User From Passwd File

Hello,
I have an old (deleted) user, that is still showing in
my /etc/passwd file and is preventing us from reusing
the username on the system. Can I use 'pico' to edit
and delete this user from the passwd file, or will
that cause problems? I read in the usergroup that I
should use vipw on the password file, and if the user
exists in the /etc/group, /etc/htgroup, /etc/htpasswd
files, I should use vi or vim to edit the other files.
I know nothing about these two editors, and I'm afraid
of screwing up my systems passwd file in the process.
If I must use this editor to delete this entry, what
exactly would I do to remove it?
I thank everyone in advance for their help and
guidance.
Randall N
