favicon.ico is a windows icon file that when placed in the root directory,
makes the bookmarks appear with that icon and not with the windows standard
symbol / icon.
This only works for very recent versions of IE 5.x
You can try it yourself:
Open http://www.networksolutions.com/cgi-bin/whois/whois in a new version of
your IE browser, and then add that page to your favorites. Then close the
browser and reopen it and look in the bookmarks -- move your mouse over the
bookmark itself and wait a few seconds -- tataa -- a new icon will appear
and from now this particular bookmark will have this special icon.
