[cobalt-users] Cobalt wishlist

My Cobalt Raq wish list...(just in case anyone from cobalt is looking...)

GUI option to not copy admin index page

I left one of these things up on a site and got hundreds of log entries
in admin_log from morons trying out all the buttons....
(admittedly you'd think after the first few
access denied pages they would get the idea, still, i had to verify each one
and it kinda obscures any real hack attempts)

Uncheck (default) reverse dns generation in DNS add A record page,
it keeps adding them..i don't want them... it's annoying...
it doesn't work for many people anyhow due to upstream issues...

PLEASE make the blue arrow on the DNS display *different* for CNAMES, there's
no way to tell them from A records easily....(even the 'ghosted' prompt is
the same)

Better add-site/add dns integration would be nice, seeing as how 90% of the
time the information is the same....(IP address, domain name, how about
a checkbox to 'add to DNS records' or such?) email integration seems to
work well, the last step would be nice....

Include an empty user.conf in web server config's
for those of us who want to use mod_rewrite etc but
would kinda prefer not hosing the server GUI configuration..
(This doesn't work real well from .htaccess ; nor can you do it from srm.conf
as it has to go after vsite names)

Add a handler for when SSI and/or CGI is torned OFF in the GUI that issues
an error document, this is especially important for CGI's as the default
tries to serve them with an unknown mime type...(i really would prefer
not giving the world my cgi's ;)

SSI's with SSI turned off ane kinda subtle and can drive you nutz if you
forget...an error document would make it clear it's not enabled....

You *are* aware that any site web can turn CGI and SSI back on at will
when they are turned off in the GUI by default...? (bu simply adding handlers
in .htaccess, unless you intentionally make it non readable to the user)

An error handler would make this harder since it would cause a
redefination error...

Fix cgiwrap ;) or at least tell us what options it was compiled with so people
who need to can recompile a compatable one with slight mods when needed, i
really hate the fact that environment vars were disabled....

OK, this one is pushing it....;) add the ability to use 2 domain names
for the same vsite...it's not *that* hard to do is it? doing it by hand
hoses the GUI (well, depending how you do it), the GUI
needs to be more 'aware' of this....:(

oh yeah, as has been mentioned elsewhere, email alias's without having to
create actual users (and the 20K of totally wasted disk space) and another
useless password....
[I'm a firm believer that the fewer passwords the better, ok, you can make
the login pointless with a bad shell, but still...more junk to worry about]

PS: I wouldn't have a wish list if i didn't like the RAQ, i'd be
elsewhere by now;) it's just nice to aim for perfection.....
