What can I say.. It is up to the individual to research the compatibilities and limitations of any new product before you make the purchase. You buy a system with largely unsupported processor architecture and your support will be thin at best. Besides, what's the matter with compiling your own binaries? If you don't, then you really have no idea what you are about to run on your mission-critical server. I'd no more trust a mystery .rpm or .pkg on one of my servers than I would trust a pre-packed parachute. ;^) $0.02 Brandon Wheaton UNIX Operations Engineer ValiCert, Inc. 1215 Terra Bella Ave. Mountain View, CA 94043 650.567.5430 ---- Computers are useless; they can only provide answers. ~Pablo Picasso -----Original Message----- From: Gonzalo Servat [mailto:gonzalo@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Tuesday, April 04, 2000 7:19 PM To: cobalt-users@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx; 'cobalt-users@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx' Subject: RE: [cobalt-users] mySQL and PHP With the difference that a i386 rpm will not install on a MIPS processor, therefore it means the user would have to download the source and compile it themselves.. or they could just make the MIPS rpm for everyone else to have.. :) At 06:48 4/04/00 -0700, Brandon Wheaton wrote: >Although it would be nice to have these other tools provided >by cobalt in neat little .pkg files, the fact is that they are >already available from numerous other places on the web.
