I just checked out the Gateway Micro Server 100 and 200 models.
They are obviously Qubes in Gateway clothing. There are some
distinct differences from looking at the specs. Other than the
color (the Gateway is black, the Qube is purple), the Gateways
have larger hard drives and the specs list an "enternal 5-port
dual-speed ethernet switch" (I may try to find out more about this).
The model that Cobalt sells for $1499 has 32MB RAM and a 8.4GB HD
whereas the Gateway 200 which also sells for $1499 has 64MB RAM
and a 20GB HD.
I don't have any experience with Cobalt's tech support (other
than what I have read here over the last week), but Gateway
lists "Hardware Phone Support for as long as you own your system".
I have had experience with Gateway tech support, and while it is
not infallable, I have been very satisfied. This may be another
good reason to buy from Gateway.
One thing that I have found to be helpful with many tech support
centers is if you are not satisfied with the way your tech support
session is progressing, hang up and call back until you find someone
who knows what they are talking about.
