Here is another comment from the original author of my previous
post on making a proper cup of British tea:

"I have much discussion (both before and after this post) about the vexed
question of boiling. Many englishmen (and women) do indeed boil the water
and many a heated (ho ho) debate has been had.  I think that the bottom 
line is that boiling will definitely mar the flavour, the water must be
brought 'to the boil' and no more."
