[cobalt-users] Commercial Sendmail: The Last Word <smile>

I just got a call back from a sales engineer at Sendmail.

The Sendmail Single Switch product comes compiled. There is no version
for the Cobalt MIPS architecture, although it should run fine on the
RaQ3.

It handles virtual domains the same way they're handled now by the
version of sendmail currently installed in your RaQ or Qube; in other
words, usernames on the computer must be unique but you can alias them
to "bob@xxxxxxxxxxx", "bob@xxxxxxxxxxx", etc.

True, the Sendmail Switch gui interface does make setups a bit easier,
but the user still has to login to a different login name than his/her
email address name.

Speaking of the gui, it's web-based, similar to the RaQ's. It runs on
its own copy of apache, which is included, on its own port, using RSA
encryption. It does NOT require x-windows.

The gui does make changes to /etc/sendmail.cf and those changes are
incompatible with using Sendmail Switch if you're using linuxconf, so it
probably will be incompatible with the RaQ interface as well.

The above information is my understanding of the features, limitations,
and capabilities of Sendmail Switch, taken from a conversation with a
Sendmail sales tech. No liability is accepted for any incorrect
statements. Use this information at your own risk <smile>.

All that said, I'm probably going to buy one, but not for a RaQ.
