RE: [cobalt-users] transfer SSL secure certificate from IIS 4.0 t o Raq3



Actually, certificates are Server specific (IIS, Netscape, Apache, etc).
Also, if you generated a new Cert request, then the current cert you have
will not work because the cert request generates a random and unique key.  I
have transferred certificates from one box to another, but the boxes were
identical and the cert.key file, which includes the keypair, was unchanged.
I'm not sure how Thawte handles this, but the way Verisign handles it if
you're having problems with transferring your certificate to another box, or
if your key is corrupted, they will revoke the certificate and re-issue a
new one (you would have to generate a new request).  There is a $100
replacement fee, but they do expedite this process.

I believe that certificates are platform specific...  however, I have been 
wrong before on numerous occassions
