Re: [cobalt-users] Configuration files location

May I strongly suggest that just because you know what these are and
where they are, you don't mess with them arbitrarily until you're sure
you know what you're doing.

And always make a backup first, in another directory, where it can't be
touched, so you know you have something to go back to. That's saved my
life a bunch of times <smile>.

In the case of both sendmail and dns, you need to restart the services
(not the computer) after you've made changes to these files.

In the case of sendmail, always test sendmail's functionality
(considering the changes you've made) before you presume you're
finished.

In the case of dns, always make sure you've read the file at
/var/log/messages after you've restarted dns service, to make sure all
your zones are still being read. Even better, use nslookup to use a
nameserver you've not used recently to look up all of your domains to
make sure they still resolve.

Messing up DNS is the quickest way to become invisible on the Internet.
