You can also use the IP address of the domain/server to FTP. Using a
siteadmin username password will automatically place you in the correct
directory for that domain you wish to FTP to. This can be done before DNS
is set for that domain.

Subject: [cobalt-users] RAQ 2 FTP permission denied and new sites.
I have run in to the problem of not being able to FTP (as admin) to my
client sites.
I have read the posts on this subject (as many as I can find) but no
resolutions seems to exist other than to FTP as the site admin.
This is a pain in the butt, but I am willing to put up with this.
My problem is, how can I do this before the DNS has propogated ?
I cannot find any resolution to the posts placed by others about what
address to use as a host address in the FTP client.
In other words, if my IP address is 123.123.123.123 and my domain is
"www.hosting-service.co.uk" and my client domain is "www.clientsite.co.uk",
how do I upload files to his site prior to the DNS becoming active ?
Many thanks
