RE: [cobalt-users] email recursion problem...

The problem is that you have defined www as a cname in your DNS record. All records for www.domain.com should be defined as A records in DNS.

Subject: [cobalt-users] email recursion problem...

Hello Cobalt List!

I set up a site on my cobalt raq server... and the site it working just fine.  Email, however, is not.

Mail sent to one the users of the site bounces back with this message:

ronhiner@xxxxxxxxx; Action: Failed; Status: 5.5.0 (other or undefined protocol status)
Remote MTA bimir.com: SMTP Diagnostic: 554 rewrite: excessive recursion (max 50), ruleset 3

It looks to me like two SMTP servers are stuck in a loop with each other -- and one of them is smart enough to realize that.  But... there is only one SMTP server - the cobalt box.

I went to the server control panel and put the domain name (bimir.com) into the 'Host/domain Aliases' field and saved changes... but when I came back, this domain was gone!  Is that a different problem... or a symptom of the same problem I'm having?

Ideas!

Thanks!

Ron
