Sendmail will do this in certain cases, i've watched it do it, basicly
the sending machine opens a connection to the revieving machine, sends
the email and if just before the revieving machine acknowlegs reviept
of the message the link gets broken, the sending machine will requeue the
message and resend it because it , technically, didn't get delivered, but
the reveiving machine seems to decice that delivering whatever it got
is a good idea , perhaps on the assumption it's not gonna get another
chance, i'd imagine running a mailing list eg: majordomo, loads the
sending
machine more heavily and increases the chances of the connection failing
during delivery as the machine load increases.....
